The new EU Data Protection Regulation is in its final stages now and more people are trying to make sense of this new law and how it is going to affect their business. Of course, not everyone is aware of the impending legislation change as recent research from data recovery specialist Kroll Ontrak and data erasure experts Blancco highlighted: 81% of IT managers across Europe are unfamiliar with the content and impact of the new EU General Data Protection Regulation.
The problem is that accurate information on the new regulation is scant on the web. So, where do you start? How do you go to keep up-to-date and ahead of everyone? Well, apart from subscribing to this blog(!), perhaps the best introductory overview is on the EU Commission’s website.
It includes a custom microsite along with some interesting–but basic–factsheets, FAQs, PDFs and even a simple video explaining why the new regulation is required.
There is a lot of information to wade through, but I think the most interesting documents, and the ones that will give you a good overview, are the following:
Why do we need an EU Data Protection Reform?
How will the EU’s reform adapt data protection rules to new technological developments?
How will the EU’s data protection reform simplify the existing rules?
How will the EU’s data protection reform benefit European businesses?
How will the EU’s data protection reform strengthen the internal market?
How will the data protection reform affect social networks
This is a good read to start with and get yourself familiar with the coming regulation which will affect how we use cloud backup, cloud storage or any type of cloud service.
